The Baptist History and Heritage Society is saddened by the death of Georgetown College professor Ira “Jack” Birdwhistell of Kentucky, a Society member and supporter. Dr. Birdwhistell’s obituary from Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is as follows:
Mr. Ira Vinson Birdwhistell
Dr. Ira “Jack” Vinson Birdwhistell, age 67, of Lawrenceburg died Friday, February 7, 2014 at his residence.
He is the son of the late Carl Vinson and Mary Lois Moffett Birdwhistell. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Georgetown Kentucky. He was a professor of religion at Georgetown College, and was campus minister at the college. He was also pastor at Drakesboro Baptist Church in Drakesboro Kentucky and Canmer Baptist Church in Canmer Kentucky. He graduated from Anderson County High School, Georgetown College, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He is survived by his 2 children, daughter, Cory (Doug) Curl, Versailles, and son, Daniel Moffett Birdwhistell, Washington, DC, and their mother, Nancy Birdwhistell; grandson, Dylan Boone Curl, Versailles; 2 brothers, Ben Moore Birdwhistell, Lawrenceburg, and Mark Dudley (Martha) Birdwhistell, Richmond; nephew, Matt (Shira) Birdwhistell, Georgetown; 3 nieces, Laura (Sam) Birdwhistell Hagan, Lawrenceburg, Mary Alice Birdwhistell, Waco TX, and Lee Birdwhistell, Berkeley, CA.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2014 at the John L. Hill Chapel at Georgetown College. A time of gathering with the family will be held at the Chapel beginning at 1:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Doc” Memorial Fund at Georgetown College or to the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.
