The Texas State Board of Education has been in the spotlight in recent months, thanks to successful efforts – spearheaded by Religious Right members – to rewrite history in Texas public school textbooks. Among many historical revisions, the Texas Board banished Baptists’ greatest contribution to American history – the separation of church and state – in favor of advocating the myth of America founded as a Christian nation.
Today the American Historical Association released an official statement regarding the new Texas Textbook standards.
