Fellowship of Baptist Historians
June 4, 2009
First Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama
Fellowship President Carl Kell of Western Kentucky University called the annual meeting to order in a Bible study classroom of the First Baptist Church of Huntville, Alabama and welcomed those attending the program portion of the meeting. Following an introduction, Dr. Doug Weaver presented a paper entitled “Baptists, Identity, E. Y. Mullins, and the Search for the New Testament Church.” After a time for questions and discussion and closing remarks by Kell, the meeting then moved to the FBC Fellowship Hall for the evening meal.
After the evening meal, President Kell called the business meeting to order. Kell then called upon Secretary Michael (Mike) Williams for a presentation of the Minutes. After approval of the minutes, Williams then moved the adoption of membership of the new members, including one who was present. The new members were approved unanimously.
After reading the bylaws regarding nomination of officers and the introduction of the nominating committee (Chair, Mike Williams, Carol Holcomb, and Glenn Jonas), President Carl Kell reported the nominations of Stephen Stookey (Dallas Baptist University) for President, Lydia Hoyle(Campbell University) for Vice President, and Bruce Gourley (Center for Baptist Studies, Mercer University) for Secretary. Kell asked for any other nominations from the floor. There were no other nominations and the officers were re-elected unanimously.
Kell, on a point of personal privilege, discussed the need for the group to be cognizant of the need for Baptists to address the Great Commission. Kell thanked Pam Durso, Associate Director of the Baptist History & Heritage Society, for her arrangements for the meeting. He then called upon Mike Williams for a resolution of appreciation that passed unanimously.[A copy of the resolution is attached below.]
There being no further business, Kell adjourned the meeting.
