BH&HS Home Page

Introduction

Baptist History and Heritage Society"The Fellowship of Baptist Historians was formed in 2000 in Savannah, Georgia, during the annual meeting of the Baptist History and Heritage Society. The Fellowship was formed by members of the Society in order to provide Baptist historians or other professional historians who have an interest in Baptist history with opportunities for fellowship and promotion of Baptist history through informal conversations as well as for academic gatherings.

If you are an academician or professional historian with an interest in Baptist history, you are cordially invited to join the Fellowship of Baptist Historians. To join, simply contact Mike Williams, secretary of the Fellowship, at mikew@dbu.edu. Currently, no dues are required for membership."

Fellowship of Baptist Historians Bylaws

Article I

Name

The official name of the organization shall be the Fellowship of Baptist Historians.

Article II

Purpose

The Fellowship of Baptist Historians shall serve as an auxiliary to the Baptist History and Heritage Society, undergirding the work of the Society by providing opportunities for fellowship and to study, discuss and act on issues related to Baptist history.  The Fellowship will cooperate with the editor of Baptist History and Heritage and promote the journal.

Article III

Members

Any academician or professional historian with an interest in Baptist history is eligible for membership in the Fellowship.  All qualified members of the Society who attend the 2000 and 2001 annual meetings of the Fellowship or who notify the president of the Fellowship or the executive-director of the Society prior to the 2001 annual meeting of the Society shall be considered charter members of the Fellowship.  After the 2001 annual meeting of the Fellowship, one may become a member of the Fellowship by vote of the current membership after having made application for membership.  Membership in the Fellowship presupposes support for the work of the Society.

Article IV

Officers

The Fellowship will elect three officers who will guide the organization and offer assistance and support to the Executive-Director of the Society.

The president shall plan the program for the annual meeting, preside at the meetings, serve as a non-voting representative of the Fellowship at meetings of the Society’s Board of Directors and perform other duties as are ordinarily pertinent to the office of the presidency.

The vice-president shall act for the president in his/her absence or incapacity, assist in planning the program for the annual meeting and in case of the death or resignation of the president shall assume the duties of that office.

The secretary shall keep full and accurate minutes of each meeting of the Fellowship.

Officers will be nominated and elected by the Fellowship at its regular annual meeting for a term of two years. The officers shall be eligible to serve two consecutive terms.

Upon completion of the president’s term, the vice president from the previous year shall be nominated president.

Article V

Meetings

The Fellowship shall have an annual meeting during the annual meeting of the Society.

Special meetings may be called by the officers.  A quorum of the Fellowship shall consist of those members present at a meeting.

Article VI

Committees

The Fellowship may elect special committees at times to perform a particular function as authorized by the assembly’s bylaws or motions.

Article VII

Parliamentary Authority

The rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern this assembly in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the assembly may adopt.

Article VIII

Amendment of Bylaws

These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the assembly by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous meeting.
