Walter B. Shurden Dr. Walter B. Shurden joined the Baptist History and Heritage Society as “Executive Director in the Interim” in August 2009. A native of Greenville, Mississippi, Dr. Shurden served Mercer University for almost twenty-five years as Callaway Professor of Christianity in the Roberts Department of Christianity in the College of Liberal Arts and for almost seven years as Executive Director of The Center for Baptist Studies at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Before coming to Mercer he taught at McMaster Divinity College (1965-66) in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; served as pastor of the First Baptist Church (1966-69) in Ruston, Louisiana; was Professor of Religion at Carson-Newman College (1969-1976), Jefferson City, Tennessee; was Professor of Church History (1976-1983) and Dean of the School of Theology (1980-1983) at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has written or edited fifteen books and published numerous articles on Baptist history and principles. Dr. Shurden has received numerous awards for his contributions to Baptist life and education and previously served as President of the Southern Baptist Historical Society. He and his wife, Kay, have three grown children and six growing grandchildren.
Kristopher Norris Kris Norris joined the Baptist History and Heritage Society staff in July 2009 to serve as office manager. He is a
graduate of the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A. ’03), Duke
University (M.Div. ’06) and the Candler School of Theology at
Emory
University
(Th.M. ’09). An ordained Baptist minister, Kris served as associate
pastor and pastor for churches in North Carolina before moving to
Atlanta. In addition to working for the Society, Kris also serves in
the congregational formation area of the Cooperative Baptist
Fellowship. He enjoys writing, playing sports, and cheering for the
Tar Heels! |
